Development

What is being built and what changed recently.

Milestones

  1. Foundations

    In progress
    1. First steps

A character walks an isometric world in real time, and the first turn-based fight is won behind cover.

    2. A character worth keeping

Levels, stats, a race, a class and its abilities, and equipment that rolls its own stats.

    3. The frontier economy

Jobs to gather, salvage and craft, and an exchange where players set every price.

    4. People and places

Quests and the people who give them, friends and parties, a star map, and the first worlds to travel to.

  2. Tests and content

    Upcoming
    1. First map

The first map of the launch world, made to be explored

    2. Monsters to fight

Creatures from the void with their own resistances, habits and ways to fight.

    3. Closed alpha

The first players on the frontier, by invitation, to break what we built and tell us what is missing.

    4. Achievements

Feats to earn and show off, from a first rift closed to the rarest monster brought down.

    5. Game content and story

Items to craft, NPCs to talk to and more maps to explore. Main story and side quests to discover.

    6. Open beta

Anyone can sign a Marcher's licence. Accounts open on this site, and the servers learn what a crowd feels like.

  3. Launch and beyond

    Upcoming
    1. Launch

The full launch world and its story, with progress that is kept for good.

    2. Beyond

New stars, new planets in the rim to explore. Possibilities are endless...

Roadmap

Fights

Building

Turn-based and tactical: where you stand matters as much as what you fire.

  • Fight monsters turn by turn: move, aim around line of sight, and duck behind cover
  • Join a friend’s fight and take the monsters on together
  • Player-versus-player fights, out where the empire is not looking

Jobs

Building

Everything worth carrying is dug up, stripped from a carcass or built by a player.

  • Harvest, salvage what monsters leave behind, craft and repair gear across eleven jobs
  • A workshop of your own, with workbenches you upgrade

Quests

Building

You are a Marcher: licensed to hold the line, paid by the contract, loyal to whoever you choose.

  • Talk to the people of the frontier, take on their quests and follow the compass to each goal

Exploration

Building

A frontier of worlds under a torn sky, lit town by town.

  • Walk the launch world, then fly from its spaceport to the sites on the star map
  • The rim: the frontier proper, where the tears are thickest

Interactions

Building

Other players are your crew, your customers and your competition.

  • Add friends, form a party, whisper and look up other players’ profiles
  • Buy and sell resources and equipment on the player-run exchange
  • Corporations that pay to keep a town lit, and decide who it stays lit for
